Photowalk at Chinatown
Went photowalking with a friend at Chinatown on the weekend. We ran into some rather unpleasant business which I will not go into detail here but we managed to get a good morning’s walk out of it anway.
Chinatown has alot to offer for photography enthusiasts and we saw many fellow camera-totting photographers on the streets. I didn’t cover as much ground as I hoped but that just means I will have more to shoot the next time I visit Chinatown.
Flitting Between Two Mistresses
So, during Zooomr’s prolonged downtime due to Mark III’s relaunch, I went and signed up for a Pro account at Flickr on a complete impulse. The free account does not allow the downloading of the original hi-res photos (bummer) and only the latest 200 photos are shown in the active stream (what?). I haven’t used the free Flickr account much but since Zooomr is down for the Mark III (re)launch, I figured it was as good a time as any to check out Flickr properly.

Online Photos != Public Domain
I just read Thomas Hawk’s post about a popular Icelandic Flickr photographer (and art student and single mom by day), Rebekka Guðleifsdóttira, who had her work ripped off and sold as prints by London-based company Only-Dreemin. The company got at least £2450 in their cash register, while Rebekka got no cash, no credit, nothing.
More information can be found on Rebekka’s Flickr post. I feel terrible for the photographer. This really really sucks.
Spread the word. Digg it here.
Togi Korean Restaurant - For the Last Time
I was in the Chinatown area last Sunday and decided to pop by with my friend to grab some dinner. We arrived a little past 7.30pm and was relieved it wasn’t packed like the last time.
We both ordered our favourite beef bibimap and when our orders arrived, I cannot tell you how disappointed we were. Instead of the generous serving of sliced beef that we were used to, the bibimap came with an utterly miserly portion of minced beef. I reckoned there wasn’t any more than a heaping tablespoon of beef mince in it.
After stirring it up, you could barely see or taste any of the beef mince. It was awful and no amount of gochujang could save it. I couldn’t eat more than a few mouthfuls, because it felt like I was eating rice mush with vegetables. My friend tried to drop a subtle hint to the lady owner by asking if chef was changed and then pointing out that the beef portion was much smaller than before. She merely smiled and replied that perhaps the kitchen crew was in a rush. Nothing else was said and done, and I pushed my bowl away after a few more weak attempts at eating it.
