Upgrade Works

I upgraded the WordPress theme to the snazzy 4u-Hemingway theme from UtomBox recently.

I wished the theme would support widgets instead of what the author terms as “blocks” but I managed to get those working after a few tweaks here and there. I made a few small hacks before I was happy enough to leave it alone, including one tiny patch.

List of Plugins (in alphabetical order):

Ubuntu on VMwareUbuntu on VMware Hosted on Zooomr

I’m blogging this from a Ubuntu 6.10 Edgy Eft install in VMware Player. Thanks to some useful tips I found, I was able to get Edgy Eft installed after increasing the virtual disk size to 3G.

VMware Player is amazing. It allows you to try out the various OS installs and applications without the risk of wiping out your existing OS. Best of all, it’s free to use. Can’t wait to try out the other Linux flavours. Gentoo, here I come!

The Ubuntu install was a breeze. I’m going to take it out for a spin and see if I like it enough to consider installing it permanently on the laptop / PC. 🙂

I volunteer with a group of friends on a semi-regular basis at the Gift of Love Home run by the Missionaries of Charity.

On the second Saturday of every other month, we make lunch for the residents. It’s a mad mad rush usually, especially when we decide to also do breakfast. I don’t usually take a lot of photos when we make lunch because there’s always plenty else that needs to be done.

A couple of weeks ago, we decided to do a little Lantern Festival celebration for the Home. I had the opportunity to take some photos but it was a little tricky with the lack of light. 😉 I had fun anyway, and we hope the residents did too.
