LogMeIn.com

Discovered this very cool service LogMeIn.com when researching for a way to access the home/office computer when I physically can’t. Initial thoughts was to establish a VPN to the home comp but I stumbled upon LogMeIn while googling and decided to give it a spin.

Great first impressions so far. Worked well off Mozilla (Java applet) and IE (ActiveX). Response was of course somewhat sluggish but good enough given that it is working off the browser. It reminded me alot of the ActiveX browser component for Windows XP’s Remote Desktop (without having to host it yourself and being restricted to IE) but the paid versions offer alot more features such as local printing from remote desktop, file transfers, etc. Very neat but the free version does it well enough for me now.

This will be a very good way of providing support to family and friends in the comfort of my own PC environment. Provided their internet access is not screwed up in the first place. :sigh
